Monica Heilman is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington. Her current work examines multiracial identity in the context of shifting categorizations in the US.

Monica Heilman is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington studying race, ethnicity, and identity. She graduated from the University of Denver with a B.A. in Sociology and Art.

Prior to beginning her graduate career, Monica taught spent two years in South Korea under a Fulbright grant. There she taught high school English, edited and contributed to a literary magazine, and tutored North Korean defectors.

Monica’s research interests include race and ethnicity, identity, social psychology, family, education, qualitative methodologies, and arts-based research. Her current projects address how multiracial individuals navigate their identities in the context of the US racial structure.
